It Was A Sew, Sew Weekend.

Actually it was a great weekend! I got some tomatoes, squash, and zucchini in the ground. We had some ripe strawberries in the garden. There will soon be ripe blackberries, and our meyer lemon tree that we thought was dead isnt! The roses are doing fabulous. My mom gets little arrangements like this weekly.

IMG_3959I also got a few sewing projects ticked off my list.

First off I made a circle skirt for my girl. I thought this skirt was going to be hard, but it was the quickest and easiest thing out of all the things I made this weekend. The tutorial I used was great.

twirlyskirtMy daughter wore it to the supermarket and we were twirling in the aisles. I hope we didn’t annoy too many other shoppers. You can’t really see it but the fabric is sparkly. She loves it.

Then I made a simple skirt (which took way longer than the circle skirt.) I had to line it but the tutorial didn’t have instructions for that so I winged it.

IMG_4007Both of these skirts had parts that needed to be serged (or overlocked whichever terminology you prefer). My serger was dusty and was not threaded. It was about 11 pm and I was not sure if  I wanted to go through all of that. I got the serger threaded on the first try. On the first skirt the tension was off but it did make the project a lot easier. On my circle skirt I got the tension right and I loved using the serger again. Im glad I decided to go for it. For some reason the zig zag stitch on my regular machine and I do not get along so the serger takes the place of that for me.

I also find myself needing a little wristlet for when I walk my dog. I take treats, my phone, and keys. I also sometimes take a knife. I don’t live in a dangerous neighborhood but I do feel I live in a dangerous world, and my husband likes to buy knives for us. Soooo sticking all this stuff in my bra got a bit inconvenient. I followed a great youtube tutorial by the Crafty Gemini (love her!) and made some.

It pained me to cut into this fabric. I love it so. I just like staring at the little ballerinas and mermaids. They are so cute. I had to press on because I buy fabric to sew with it! I’m glad I did. The quilting was fun. I used fabric glue as per the tutorial to bond the batting and the fabric before quilting and that made it super easy.

All of these things were made this weekend. I’m so proud of myself. It used to take me a day to just cut fabric for a project. I never thought I would get four items done in two days.  Have a great week y’all.

  1. I am so envious that you live in a place where you’ve already got fruit ready to pick. We don’t even have leaves on the trees yet. Most of our lawns are still brown – I haven’t even de-thatched mine.

The skirts are awesome, and I love, love, love the wristlets. Like you, I’m a bra stuffer.
